Dr. Chas Rowland, Pastor

Dr. Chas RowlandDr. Chas Rowland was raised in a Christian home. His father was a pastor, and in fact one of his earliest memories consists of sitting in the Dallas Theological Seminary cafeteria, as a 3 year old, learning the Greek and Hebrew alphabet with his father. Chas repented of his sins, trusted Christ, and was saved at 7 years old. At 16, God issued a second call upon Chas' life to preach His gospel.

God blessed Dr. Rowland with a wonderful wife, Rebekah, who has a passion for missions and grew up in Singapore as a missionary kid. Chas and Rebekah have 3 young sons of their own: Charlie, Haddon, and Boyce.

Dr. Rowland pursued his education, ultimately earning a PhD in Historical Theology with a minor in Preaching from Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary. Chas has served as a pastor in several churches since 2000, and is currently serving as the Pastor of Bovina Baptist Church in Vicksburg, MS. Dr. Rowland also has the honor of being elected as the President of the 2013 Mississippi Baptist State Convention Pastor's Conference. Prior to serving as a pastor, Chas worked with the Alabama Baptist State Convention to serve as an evangelist/revivalist in the late 90's.

Aside from Dr. Rowland's ministerial experience, God has allowed Chas to serve college and seminary students as an adjunct professor since 2005. Currently, Chas serves as an adjunct professor for New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary - Mississippi College campus, where he teaches Systematic Theology and Church History. Dr. Rowland is also very involved in supporting one8, a Mississippi Baptist church planting network, as a workshop instructor, bootcamp speaker, and blogger. Dr. Rowland is also a contracted author for LifeWay Christian Resources to write Sunday School curriculum.

Dr. Rowland's ministerial philosophy is centered around expository preaching and on the sufficiency of Scripture. Whether in his home church pulpit or in a visiting pulpit as an evangelist, Chas is resolutely committed to the faithful preaching of the gospel of Christ through the systematic expository preaching of the Word of God.

Chas' personal life and ministry theme verse is 1 Cor. 1:17-18, "For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
